5 states in India still account 60% of total Covid cases: Minister

Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the five states in India still account 60% of total COVID-19 cases. Health Ministry statistics said that nearly 53 percent of total deaths reported in last 24 hours have been reported in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: As Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday is giving a detailed statement over India's strategy to fight Covid-19 pandemic, Health Ministry reiterated that 60 per cent of the total COVID cases are coming from five states namely Maharastra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

In the last 24 hours, India registered 92,071 new COVID cases and 1,136 deaths. As on Monday, India registered 48 lakh total COVID cases and 79,722 deaths.

Significantly, 60 per cent of the total active cases India registered on Monday have come from these five states with Maharastra leading the list with the maximum number of 22,000 cases.

Health Ministry statistics said that nearly 53 per cent of total deaths reported in the last 24 hours have been reported in Maharastra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. More than 36 per cent deaths (416) have been reported in Maharashtra.

Statistics revealed that Maharastra has 290,716 active cases against the recovery number of 740,061, Karnataka has 99,222 active cases and 352,958 recovered patients, Andhra Pradesh has 95,072 active cases and its recovery number of 467,139, Uttar Pradesh has 68,122 active cases against a total recovery number of 239,485 and Tamil Nadu has 47,012 active cases against a total recovery number of 447,366.

Health Ministry said that as many as 77,512 patients have been cured in the last 24 hours taking the total number to 37,80,107 at a per cent of 78.00. Total active cases in India at present is 9,86,598.

It may be mentioned here that maximum precautions have been adopted against COVID-19 in the Parliament as the Monsoon session has been started from Monday. Apart from COVID centric sitting arrangements for the MPs, use of masks, shields have also been made mandatory for the members.

Meanwhile, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan in a letter written to State chief secretaries has asked to establish a robust project monitoring mechanism for the health projects under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP).

The ministry has asked for regular updates of all health infrastructure projects, especially those which involves greater investment or national importance. Under the NIP scheme, which was launched on Independence Day 2019, the government plans to invest Rs 100 lakh crore over the next five years.
