Haryana: As many as 38 people, who had recently undergone eye surgery at Kishan Lal Jalana Government Hospital in Bhiwani, have been admitted to the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) on Wednesday, for the treatment of complications reportedly arising from the operation.
According to sources, a 'special retina unit' from PGIMS had performed 400 eye surgeries between March 11 to 15 and among them, 38-40 have contracted infections. The patients hailed from the nearby villages of Bhiwani, Karnal and Jhajjar.
A preliminary investigation into the issue revealed that there could be a problem with the medicines, especially the eye drops administered before and after the surgery, as they could have expired.
The doctors, in this regard, have said that it was the first time such an issue, alongside the scale of operation, was reported and would ensure to ascertain the reason behind it.
