EU delegation meets PM Modi, NSA Doval over Kashmir situation

A delegation of the European Union parliamentarians met Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Monday. The EU delegation is to visit Kashmir on Tuesday.

Delhi: A delegation from the European Union (EU) met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NSA Ajit Doval on Monday and discussed the situation prevailing in Kashmir post modification of Article 370.

The European Union delegation is scheduled to visit Kashmir on Tuesday.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, French politician and member of European parliament Thierry Mariani, said, "We are here to gather more information about Kashmir, because in Europe we have opposite information. This visit will help us understand the reality of the situation."

He added, "It is (the issue of Kashmir) of interest to us because, like India, Europe has also been struck by terrorists. And, I feel that what has happened in Kashmir will improve the security situation in this part of the world."

Government sources said that a total 32 members of the European Parliament were invited, but only 28 members visited the country including Polish, Brit, French, German and Belgian lawmakers.

The 28- members EU delegations will also meet Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday.
