Thane (Maharashtra): A father-son duo died in the early hours of Tuesday after a portion of a hillock caved in and fell on a wall which then crashed into their house in Maharashtra's Thane district, a civic official said.
The incident happened about ten minutes past midnight in Atkonteshwar Nagar area of Kalwa township in the district.
"Three people were sleeping in the house at the time. Birendra Jaiswar (40) and his son Sunny (10) were rushed to hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Birendra's wife sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment," Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Santosh Kadam said.
The chawl in which the deceased family was staying is close to Dyanganga school and the condition of the hillock was declared unsafe earlier, following which 70 persons were shifted to a nearby school, he said.
