Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao held a press meet in the city on Friday to raise awareness among the people on the occasion of the International Anti-Narcotic Drugs and Trafficking Day.

Additional Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil, Sumendra Mukherjee and CCB DCP Ravi and Kuldeep Jain were also present at the event.

City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said: "Drugs have become the main problem. Thus, the city police have taken serious action on the supply of drugs, the sale of drugs, and the consumption of drugs."

"Our special team has been working on this," he added.

In 2019-20, the city police registered 1174 cases under the NPSPS's order, with the seizure of 1801 nationals and 44 foreigners, Rao informed.

1016 kg cannabis, 2.9 kg opium, 1.15 kg hashish, 345-gram cocaine, 1079 chemical drum tablets and brown sugar were seized, he said.

Bhaskar Rao claimed that: "Some of the accused targeted students and supplied cannabis in the city. Police also discovered that couriers from overseas through the Internet's dark web brought drugs to the city."

Public and education institutions must join hands with the police to effectively control the social grievances. He also asked to call 1098 toll number if any drug case was found.
