We are supporting Bharat Bandh, will oppose farm laws strongly: BSP

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadoria on Tuesday said that his party is supporting the Bharat Bandh and will oppose the new farm laws by tooth and nail.  

"The same BJP when it was in the opposition was opposing these changes because they were with the farmers. Since they are in power, they are now with the people who have the money bags, the rich and it is for this reason that this bill has been brought and which is against the farmers and therefore we oppose it and we will oppose it tooth and nail," Bhadoria said.

"There is Bharat Bandh called by farmers and supported by everyone in this country. Mayawati ji who is our national president of BSP is also supporting the farmers," he said.  

Bhadoria said that BSP believes in a peaceful, constitutional, democratic method of protest. "We are participating in this bandh and we will continue to do so," he added.

Kashmir fruit growers support Bharat Bandh

Kashmir fruit growers for the first time in recent years have joined hands with farmers of other Indian states to extend their support to the Bharat Bandh called to protest the BJP government’s three new farm laws.

According to Fayaz Ahmed, Sopore Fruit Mandi President, the fruit growers will shut their business activities on Tuesday to make the bandh call a success.

He said ''We extend our support to the bandh call of farmers. Presidents of all fruit growers’ associations of the valley have been requested to close all their mandis for all sorts of business.''

Shops in all fruit mandis will remain shut so that the demands of the farmers are fulfilled. Sopore fruit mandi will also keep its operations suspended.

Taking to Twitter Congress leader Rahul Gandi on Tuesday urged people to support the Bharat Bandh call given by farmer leaders and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop "stealing" from farmers. Gandhi and the Congress party are supporting the farmers' agitation and they have demanded a repeal of the three farm laws.

The Congress is openly supporting the Bharat Bandh and has joined the protests by holding dharnas and demonstrations across the country.

Bharat Bandh LIVE: Paramilitary personnel asked to 'exercise restraint'

New Delhi: Paramilitary forces have issued detailed instructions for their troops regarding Bharat Bandh and asked them not to remove body protectors and to exercise maximum restraint while dealing with the situation.

According to a document, sent by CRPF to all officers handling law and order situation in various states, paramedic staff and doctors are accompanying troops for any medical assistance. This has been done after an input which says that some anti-national elements can create problems for the forces.

"A call has been given to observe Bharat Bandh on 8 December wherein anti-national elements may try to create some problems to force deployed on duty," a communication sent by CRPF says.

Forces have asked officers like Commandant and second officer in command to be present all the time at the spot and ensure procedures given by the top brass.

Paramilitary forces like the CRPF, BSF, CISF and others have also briefed jawans about the sensitivity of the situation and have asked them to observe restraint.

A senior BSF official said that troops have been asked to remain on the position given to them till the time of withdrawal, "Maximum restraint should be taken while dealing with the situation," BSF official said quoting an official communication.
