Bengaluru Metro: Bommai, Hardeep Puri inaugurate extended stretch on Purple Line

The 7.5 km long Western Extension Line under Phase-2 of Namma Metro from Mysore Road Metro Station to Kengeri Metro Stations will be open for the public starting from Monday.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chef Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday inaugurated the extended Purple Line of Bangalore Metro to 'Namma Metro Rail' 7.5 km long Western Extension Line under Phase-2 from Mysore Road Metro Station to Kengeri.

The 7.5 km long Western Extension Line under Phase-2 of Namma Metro from Mysore Road Metro Station to Kengeri Metro Stations will be open for the public starting from Monday, according to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials.

Noting that Bengaluru is one of the major engines of economic growth for the entire country, with a strong presence in information technology, biotechnology and applied sciences research, Union Minister Puri said, "The city accounts for nearly 38 per cent of total IT exports from the country....the inauguration of the Western Extension Metro Line today is a step towards enabling faster commute and smart mobility options in the city."

"We are delighted to have inaugurated the Namma Metro line. Bangalore City is economically thriving in the entire country and is well known in the IT-BT sector. 600 million people live in urban areas in India. There are many renowned international educational, research and medical institutions. The central government will provide assistance to all development work in Bangalore. The Phase-1 works of the Metro Railway started in 2006 and the Bangalore Metro is well known today. Metro traffic is available in 27 cities across the country", Puri said.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said that " Namma metro is the future link of Bangalore. Namma Metro provides a good mass transit system for elites from other places. The road has been marked by traffic problems in Bangalore. A total of 12 roads with high traffic jams will be marked and a traffic signal will be arranged. Roads connecting major cities will be free of traffic soon."

He further added that High-Speed Rail, Suburban and Metro Rail are the three-way system to connect Bangalore Airport. No other city has such a system.

"The first day I became CM, I reviewed the progress of Metro projects. High-Speed Rail Project to be launched in Bengaluru soon," he added. Namma Metro Phase-2 may finish in 2024:

The construction of this route at a cost of Rs.1,560 crore. Rs.360 crores for land acquisition. The Metro service is expected to cover 75,000 passengers a day. The length of the east-west corridor line has increased by 18.1 km. Phase-2 of the Namma Metro project is the extension of Reach 2 from Nayandahalli to Kengeri.

Parking Facility:

There are Mysore road station, Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagara, Jnanabharathi, Pattanagare, Kengeri bus terminal and Kengeri stations. Two storey parking facility is available at Kengeri Bus Terminal. All the stations except the Kengeri Bus Terminal Station are paved for pedestrian access.

Route Profile:

Now, the Metro traffic from Violet Route to Biappanahalli-Kengeri will cost Rs.56 to travel from Biyappan village to Kengeri. The rate is fixed at Rs.56. It will be a 15-minute drive from Mysore Road to Kengeri. The longest route on the Metro network, from Kengeri to Silk Institute, is priced at Rs 60.
