Kolkata: West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party will start a massive campaign to promote the central food scheme, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in the state.

Special jute ration bags, leaflets and stickers with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be distributed in front of fair price shops throughout the state. This campaign programme will be conducted in front of all the 24,000 fair price shops in West Bengal.

The state BJP president, Dilip Ghosh kicked off this special campaign programme at BJP's state headquarters in Kolkata on Thursday. Present on the occasion were BJP's Lok Sabha member from Purulia, Jytirmoy Singh Mahato and state BJP vice-president, Bishwapriyo Majumdar.

Speaking on the occasion, Ghosh said that this central food scheme has benefitted a large number of poor people in the state.

"In the current pandemic situation, the Prime Minister has allotted five kilograms of rice and five kilograms of wheat for the poor people. To make the people aware of this scheme, we are launching this campaign in front of all the 24,000 fair price shops throughout the state. Special jute ration bags, leaflets and stickers with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be distributed," he said.

BJP leaders said that although this is basically a central scheme, the Trinamool Congress-ruled state is taking the credit for it by projecting it with a different name.

"All these food items are supplied to the state food department from the depots of the Food Corporation of India. But now we want to make the people aware that this is actually a central scheme and that it is a brainchild of the Prime Minister. So, special jute ration bags, leaflets and stickers with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be distributed," a BJP leader said.

He also claimed that the state government is always taking the credit by projecting different central schemes with different names. "We will campaign on each of these projects from now onwards," he said.
