New Delhi: Days after a violent clash that took place along the Assam-Mizoram border on Monday, both the state governments have asked the authorities concerned to ensure the safety of outsiders in their respective states. While the Assam government has asked the Deputy Commissioners of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts to ensure the safety of people from Mizoram in the state, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has issued orders to ensure the safety of the non-Mizos travelling through the Kolasib district that borders Assam's Cachar district.
The Assam government has also asked the district administration in Kamrup (Metro), and Cachar district to ensure the safety of the residents of Mizoram Bhavan in the districts. On Monday, deadly clash took place between the police and civilians of Assam and Mizoram at Lailapur along the border leading to the death of six Assam police personnel, a civilian and left 42 people injured. Both the states accused each other of violating the status quo along the border that led to the skirmish.

Meanwhile, amid the simmering tension along with the Assam-Mizoram inter-state border, the Assam government has also issued an advisory to the people of the state not to travel to Mizoram and urged them to exercise utmost caution to those living in the neighbouring state for work-related compulsion. Issuing the advisory, the Assam government has also asked the police to check and inspect the vehicles that enter Assam from Mizoram as most of the illicit drugs enter Assam through Mizoram.
"Continuing our offensive against drug cartels operating from Mizoram and beyond, we have decided to up the ante. Request people to cooperate in the interest of gen-next of our country," tweeted Assam's Special Director General of Police, GP Singh.

The notification issued by the Assam government further said that the state police have registered 912 cases, arrested 1,560 persons and seized 20.678 kgs of heroin, 15 kg of opium and 1.9 kgs of morphine within a short span of two months. "During the drive against illicit drugs, it has been observed that most of the drugs were routed through Assam via Mizoram from across the border," it said while adding that it is imperative to check the vehicles entering from Mizoram as the illicit drugs via Mizoram causes great concern and threat to the society in general.
