AP: 'Honeymoon' in University guest house, JNTU-K sets up probe

A newly-wed couple having made honeymoon arrangements in the guest house of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at Kakinada in Andhra, drew widespread criticism from students and general public. The guest house built in the University premises is used only for official purposes by the faculty members and employees.

Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh): Honeymoon arrangements in the guest house of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at Kakinada, in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district, by a newly-wed couple, has drawn widespread criticism from students and general public. Generally, the guest house which is located in the University premises is allotted for official purposes and used by the faculty members and employees. However, an alleged videoclip of the guest house room decked up with rosy flowers went viral on social media. Following the incident, JNTU-K has set up a five-member probe committee to investigate the episode.

According to preliminary information, the guest house was booked for three days (August 18th-20th) by one Swarna Kumari, said to be the women empowerment director of the University. Meanwhile, Student Unions on having learned about the incident took to protests demanding action against those responsible for having destroyed the sanctity of the educational establishment.

Professor Sumalatha appointed new Registrar of JNTU-K

Amid the ongoing controversy, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, Vice Chancellor Ramalinga Raju appointed Prof L. Sumalatha as the new Registrar. She has been serving as a Professor of CSE in the University College of Engineering and also as its Director of Evaluation. The post of Registrar had fallen vacant following the demise of the previous Registrar Ch. Satyanarayana.
