Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday granted permission to the state election commission to conduct the panchayat elections.
The High Court bench clarified that the panchayat elections should continue. It has quashed the judgment of Single Bench imposing the stay on the election and the High Court also allowed the writ appeal filed by the SEC.
On this occasion, the High Court commented that both public health and elections are important.
"Elections should be held without bothering anyone. The High Court directed the government and state election commission to move ahead with coordination," the HC release said.
Earlier, the High Court had cancelled the election schedule released for the conduct of Gram Panchayat Elections and said that the decision was taken keeping public health in mind.
Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had released the schedule for the Gram Panchayat elections on January 9. The state government had subsequently filed a House Motion Petition against that order on Saturday.
