Amitabh Bachchan's 1984 Sikh Riots controversy continues unabated

The controversy related to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan's donation to the Delhi Gurudwara Committee for Covid-19 relief continues unabated. The Delhi Gurdwara Committee is opposing this matter and has filed a complaint that has been lodged in Shri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar.

Chandigarh: The controversy surrounding Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan's donation to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for Covid-19 relief has got a new twist.

Now, a letter written by Bachchan to the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib in 2011 has emerged. In the letter, the veteran actor had sought to clear him of the charges of inciting the mob during the 1984 Sikh massacre in Delhi.

In the letter, Bachchan had written that he can never think of hurting the sentiments of Sikhs and he had been falsely implicated. He further wrote that the 1984 Sikh Riots was a dark period in the history of Sikhs.

Bachchan, in the letter, mentioned that at that time when he was invited by the Punjab government to attend the inauguration ceremony of the historic Khalsa Heritage Complex at Sri Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of the Khalsa Panth. The actor had wanted to attend the event but due to the controversy in his role during the 1984 Sikh Riots, could not attend the ceremony.
