Published under the title "The Role of Thymoquinone, a Major Constituent of Nigella Sativa in the Treatment of Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases" and led by researchers from the Sydney University of Technology, the research showed Nigella Sativa i.e. Kalonji is helpful in the treatment of COVID-19 infection.

Professor and researcher Kaneez Fatima Shad at the University of Technology in Sydney says, 'Modeling research of the study has provided evidence that thymoquinone, an active component of Nigella sativa, gets stuck to the spike protein of the covid virus in the lungs and prevents it from causing further infection. It can also inhibit the 'cytokine' storm that affects critically ill COVID patients.
