All staffers at SC judge residence test COVID positive

A supreme court judge informed the lawyers that all the staffers at his official residence have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Additional Solicitor General said that the court should take its own time to deal with the situation.

New Delhi: All staff members of one of the Supreme Court judges have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the judge said during the hearing of a case on Thursday.

He was sitting on the bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud and broke the news to the lawyers that all his staffers at the official residence have got the viral infection.

The bench then rose and would reassemble at 2 PM. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati said the court should take its own time to deal with the situation. Over 40 staffers of the apex court had tested positive for novel coronavirus infection a few days ago.

On April 12, after several staff members of the Supreme Court tested positive for COVID-19 it was decided that judges will start hearing cases from their respective residences.

After the lockdown was imposed, staff members were coming to court on a rotational basis and chambers for lawyers were also opened.
