Jaisalmer: The Indian Army and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday successfully conducted the launch of the new generation Akash missile from Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan. The upgraded army version of the missile was fired from a heavy mobility truck.
The new generation missile is designed for use by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army to intercept high-manoeuvring aerial threats.
The Indian Army artillery will become stronger when the missile is inducted, reports said.

The official Twitter handle of the Indian Army's South Western Command tweeted, "With surgical precision & lethality, #AkashWeaponSystem destroys highly manoeuvrable, high-speed aerial target adopting challenging profiles; another milestone added to its legacy as one of the most potent SR SAM system."

The missile is capable of engaging multiple targets in real-time. The missile has an interception range of 40km with the missile guidance system being more accurate now along with the fire control system. The upgraded Akash-NG system has been developed with better deployability compared to other similar systems.
The Pokhran field firing range has conducted the launch of various missiles and weapons successfully.
