Mumbai: After being shut for over 18 months, schools reopened across Maharashtra on Monday in adherence to COVID-19 protocols. Physical classes have started for classes 5 to 12 in rural areas and for classes 8 to 12 in urban areas of the state.
As part of the state government's 'My School, My Responsibility' campaign, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will interact with students and teachers via video conferencing at 12 pm.
On Monday, State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad in a tweet said, "This is the spirit. We shall overcome." She also shared a video from a classroom.

Earlier in the day, the minister in a tweet, roughly translated from Marathi, said, "Schools across the state are starting once again from today. Best wishes to the students and parents on this occasion! I firmly believe that you will spend your first day of school in a safe and happy environment."
As per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the state government for the reopening of schools, it is not mandatory for students to attend physical classes. The students have to submit consent letters from their parents if they want to attend physical sessions.
Physical classes in schools across the state were stopped in March 2020, after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
