Youth throws acid on a woman travelling in a moving train in Uttar Pradesh. Victim says the cause behind the attack is an old enmity.

Auraiya: Despite the Uttar Pradesh government claiming to have taken many measures for women's safety, atrocities against women in the state continue. In Auraiya district's Phaphund police station area, there was an acid attack on a woman in a moving train.

According to information received, Pooja, 35, was travelling to her maternal home in Auraiya from her in-laws' place in Etawah Thursday evening in a passenger train when three persons threw acid on her from behind. As a result, her back and the lower part of her waist got burnt. The accused then escaped by jumping off the train.

Police later admitted the victim to a women's hospital for treatment.

According to Pooja, the cause behind the attack was on old enmity. A few days back, the accused had got into a fight with her brother Anuj. Following this, her brother was implicated in a false case and sent to jail.

Pooja said that the accused used to threaten her whenever she visited her home in at Dussehra village under Phaphund police station area. They had forbade her from coming to the village. She had also lodged a complaint with the Phaphund police station three days back apprehending something untoward.

According to SP Aparna Gautam, a youth from Pooja's village had poured inflammable material on her. When she felt something burning, she informed the police who then took her to the hospital.

Police have now formed teams to arrest the accused.
