Lucknow: There are still several months left for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. All political parties are trying to woo people through conferences and yatras. There is another party after BJP, SP, Congress and BSP, which is desperate to achieve anything in this election. This party is Aam Aadmi Party.

The party's state in-charge and MP Sanjay Singh has taken up the responsibility of setting up this party in Uttar Pradesh. For the past several years, he has been vocal about the shortcomings of the government. We spoke to Sanjay Singh in detail about the election preparations. Sanjay Singh has done Diploma in Mining Engineering from Orissa School of Mining Engineering. He was also active in social work before joining politics.

During the conversation, we asked Sanjay Singh what role he sees for the Aam Aadmi Party in the upcoming elections.

“If seen in terms of seats, then the Aam Aadmi Party has no existence in the state, yet the party tried to expose the failures of the government like an opposition party,” he said. “Still, the challenge before the party is to create such an organisation of its own that it can win seats.”

As BJP had come to power making corruption a major issue, we also wanted to know from Sanjay Singh whether corruption be an issue in the upcoming elections. How much work has been Lokayukta has been able to do in this government? NK Mehrotra, who was Lokayukta in Mayawati's government in 2007, recommended action against many ministers and action was taken against these ministers too.

To this, Sanjay Singh said that much action cannot be expected from the shameless government. He cited many scams of the government, on which the government is silent. He was asked why he does not talk on the opposition parties, when the role of the opposition is to keep an eye on the government. In reply, he said that the the Corona crisis and the deaths of MLAs of this were failures of the government.

Sanjay Singh was asked whether it is not that he is exploring the possibility of an alliance with opposition parties and that is why he does not talk against them. To this, he said that his party will contest all the seats and will fight the party which is in power, because the opposition has already been rejected by the people.

When asked. he did not give any clear answer on the alliance with the Samajwadi Party and instead talked about fielding candidates in all the seats. He denied the government's claims of development.

He also did not say anything clearly about the active role that AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi is playing in the state. He, however, promised to bring schemes to Uttar Pradesh on the lines of Delhi.
