Hyderabad: Indian and Chinese troops, on June 15, 2020, engaged in their first deadly clashes in over five decades, resulting in the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers, including that of the commanding officer of 16 Bihar Regiment Colonel B. Santosh Babu. The fierce standoff between India and China started near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in May 2020 after India started construction of new roads on its side of the border.
Since then, the People's Liberation Army and Indian troops have been locked in an eye-to-eye situation in several key areas, including Pangong Tso and Galwan Valley. Both countries also held a series of meetings at the military and diplomatic levels where National Security Advisors, Defence Ministers and Foreign Ministers held talks but the situation still remains at crossroads.
As the country marks one year of the deadly clash, here's the sequence of the events that led to the violent clashes between both armies at Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh.
