Foreigner cleans beach in Mangalore

Mangalore: Campaigns have been conducted in Mangalore to curb piling of waste in surroundings and at the city's iconic sites, yet, none got rid of the habit of littering.

Being distinct from the crowd that did not heed to the campaigns in keeping the tourist city clean, Emma Fernandez, a foreigner spent her ten days cleaning Mangalore's Chitrapur beach.

The Belgium native comes to Mangalore twice a year and is concerned about how garbage has been piling up at Mangalore's iconic tourist locations.

Covid scare had deterred her from flying back to Belgium for Christmas and she decided to ensure that the time is well spent for the benefit of the community by taking upon herself to clean the Chitrapur beach.

Her husband Denzil Fernandez, a national champion is a resident of Mangalore.

Emma provides online counselling and treatment for Holland's mentally ill patients from 2 pm to 8 pm, IST.
