Barpeta: In a shocking development, Assam police have arrested six persons for their links with the Al-Qaeda network based in Bangladesh. Barpeta District Superintendent of Police, Amitabh Sinha said this on Saturday adding that the six arrested were linked to Al-Quaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The six were identified as Mufti Suleiman, Jehidul Islam, Saddam Hussain, Rasidul Islam, Musharraf Hussain and Maquibul Islam.
The SP said that the six were nabbed from different areas of the district. "The six persons have been in regular touch with Mohammad Suman alias Saiful Islam of Bangladesh," Sinha said, noting that they were caught based on information provided by Islam, who himself was arrested on March 4. He further added that Maquibul Islam is also connected to the PFI.
Sinha said that the breakthrough came following the arrest of Mohammad Suman who was arrested by the police on March 4 this year. Suman had been camping in Barpeta since 2009 with an evil design to turn Assam into a Caliphate along with the Indian subcontinent.
