Kurnool: Clashes erupted during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Holagunda in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district on Saturday night. During the procession, two groups threw stones at each other. More than 15 people were injured in the incident.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. It is learned that only three other constables along with the Aluru Circle Inspector were on duty at the time of the attack. Police came from nearby bases and brought the situation under control after the incident.
As per information, the issue arose when the procession was passing through an area adjacent to a mosque in the evening, with worshippers objecting to loud music playing in the procession. The situation intensified, with the District SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy reaching the spot and ensuring the procession keeps moving. He also arranged for security in the area for the night.
The situation grew troublesome once again the following morning, when the two factions met to try and resolve the issue. However, another round of stone pelting occurred in front of the SP, after which the police personnel dispersed the crowd.
