Patna: A cop deployed in surveillance investigation bureau, has been charged with domestic violence and dowry harassment. The victim has alleged that her husband, has been regularly beating her up over the past few years. She also accused him of demanding a dowry of 20 lakhs.
Om Prakash, a resident of Dewan Makhalla in Khangale, Patna City, was married to Amrita Kumari, daughter of Gauri Devi, living in Nasirganj. Before the wedding, Om Prakash had demanded a dowry of 12 lakhs which the victim's mother paid by selling her field.
A few months into the marriage, the accused allegedly started demanding Rs 20 lakh from his in-laws, which they couldn't arrange, after which he started harassing his wife.
According to the complainant's mother, on May 29, Prakash accused Amrita of not being able to get the money and thrashed her badly. Due to severe injuries, Amrita was admitted, in NMCH hospital for several days. Her statement was recorded in front of ASI posted in Alamganj. Amrita's mother also accused Om Prakash of having an extra-marital affair.
Tired of repeated torture by her husband, Amrita decided to seek help from SSP Officer Garima Singh. However, due to her injuries, Amrita's mother and sister registered the complaint on behalf of her.
