Chennai: The Customs sleuths at the Chennai airport have arrested two passengers for illegal smuggling 1.42 kilograms of gold, a total worth Rs 72 lakhs on Thursday.
The goods were seized from two passengers who arrived at the Chennai Airport from Dubai by Flight. The two accused had concealed gold paste in the rectum which was recovered, sources said.
According to Air Custom officials, the seized items include 1.42 kg of gold valued at Rs 72.6 lakhs. The other items include cigarettes, smartphones, laptops and liquor with a total worth of Rs 12.4 lakhs.
The two accused persons were arrested under Section 110, 104 of the Customs Act and after interrogation, they have been handed over to the police, sources added.
