On arrival, BJP National President J. P. Nadda along with BJP Gen Secretary Vinod Tawade and Party's in-charge, Foreign Affairs Dept, Vijay Chauthaiwale welcomed the dignitaries. Four cabinet ministers of Nepal and the First Lady accompanied the visiting Prime Minister. BJP National President briefed him about the party structure and also about the welfare activities carried out by the BJP during the pandemic. Nadda also briefed him on the Party’s coordination with families whose children were stuck in Ukraine recently. He emphasized the enhanced party to party interactions at every level and specifically proposed the exchange of delegations of youth leaders as well as women leaders from both sides.

Deuba is slated to meet Prime Minister Modi on Saturday. Besides official engagements, he will also pay a visit to Varanasi, sources said. Earlier, Deuba had visited India in each of his four earlier stints as Prime Minister. The most recent visit was in 2017. This visit marks the tradition of periodic high-level exchanges between India and Nepal which allows both sides to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations including development and economic partnership, trade, cooperation in sectors like health, power, connectivity, people to people ties among other issues of mutual interest.

Earlier in January, Deuba was scheduled to visit India to participate in a business summit in Gujarat. However, the trip got cancelled after the summit was postponed in the wake of the pandemic. EAM Jaishankar had visited Kathmandu in August 2019 to take part in the fifth Indo-Nepal joint commission meeting. India-Nepal relations have hit at a low during former Nepalese Prime Minister Oli's tenure on account of some of his statements that India objected to. Thus, Prime Minister Deuba's visit can be seen as a step towards further improving the strained ties between the two nations.
