Baghdad: Tens of thousands of people participated in a demonstration to show solidarity with powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, in Baghdad on Friday.
Demonstrators carried Iraq flags and posters of al-Sadr and his father Mohammed al-Sadr, who was killed in 1999.
The demonstrators showed their support and approval for al-Sadr's call for mass participation in the upcoming election and the distribution of biometric ID cards, which are needed to vote.
The Iraqi Prime Minister announced that elections will be held in June 2021.
