Jerusalem: Muslim worshippers prayed in the Al Aqsa compound in Jerusalem's Old City on Friday to mark the Eid al-Adha holiday.
'Eid al-Adha', or 'Feast of the Sacrifice,' commemorates the Quranic tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
The religious compound in Jerusalem is known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif, or the Noble Sanctuary.
With little sign of social distancing in place, Jerusalem's Muslim community was marking the holiday under the long shadow of the coronavirus.
Israel had largely contained its outbreak following a two-month lockdown in May.
But cases soared after the restrictions were lifted.
Israel has had more than 70,000 coronavirus cases and just over 500 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
