CIA director discusses security, Afghan situation with Pak Army chief, ISI

According to a statement issued by Pakistan's inter-services public relations, Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was also present during the meeting, which focused on Afghanistan and the regional security situation after the US troops withdrawal and Taliban takeover.

New Delhi: The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Thursday discussed the fast-evolving security situation in Afghanistan with General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

According to a statement issued by Pakistan's Inter-Services public relations, Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was also present during the meeting, which focused on Afghanistan and the regional security situation after the US troops withdrawal and Taliban takeover.

"William Joseph Burns, Director Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), USA called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) & Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)," it read.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and current situation in Afghanistan were discussed.

Pakistan reiterated that it remains committed to cooperating with its international partners for peace in the region and "ensuring a stable and prosperous future for the Afghan people."

Earlier on Tuesday, Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with US CIA chief William Burns in Delhi. The meeting took place on the day when the Taliban announced the formation of the new government. Security issues amid the formation of the government in Taliban topped the agenda of discussion.

The ISPR further said that the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan's role in the Afghan situation including successful evacuation operations, efforts for regional stability and pledged to play their role for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
