5 escaped prisoners killed in car crash in Lebanon

As many as five escaped prisoners from Baabda jail near Lebanon's capital Beirut were killed in a road accident after their car crashed into a tree near the Constitutional Council in the Hadat area.

More than 60 inmates broke out of Baabda prison, locking some guards in a cell before fleeing.

Security forces beefed up checkpoints in the area surrounding Baabda's Justice Palace and were searching for the escapees.

Ten prisoners were recaptured after the huge manhunt coordinated between Lebanese security forces.
