Death toll in China chemical plant blast mounts to 64

The death toll in an explosion in a chemical plant in east China's Jiangsu Province has increased to 64. Out of the 68 deceased 38 remain unidentified. Search operations at the scene is on.

Jiangsu Province: The death toll in an explosion in a chemical plant in east China's Jiangsu Province has risen to 64, state media reported on Saturday.

According to media, 38 of the 64 dead remain unidentified, while the government has received 28 missing reports from relatives and friends.

Media footage showed a man being rescued on Saturday morning after being trapped for 40 hours. He was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. The search is still underway for other survivors.

Environmental monitoring showed that all indexes of pollution were back to normal, but authorities were still blocking rivers to keep polluted water from spreading, media reported.
