Child abuse: Court awards 16-year jail term to ex-UN worker

Peter John Dalglish was ordered to pay compensation of one million to the victims and jail term of 16 years combined. Dalglish had worked for UN humanitarian agency in Afghanistan, UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response in Liberia and also in Darfur of Sudan.

Kathmandu: A former United Nations official from Canada, who served in Ebola emergency, was awarded 16 years of jail term and penalty worth one million (in Nepali Rupees)over guilty of child abuse.

The 62-year-old Peter John Dalglish was ordered to pay compensation of one million to the victims and jail term of 16 years combined.

Earlier Dalgish had worked for UN humanitarian agency in Afghanistan, UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response in Liberia and also in Darfur of Sudan.

Earlier in April last year, Nepal Police had rescued two boys, aged 12 and 14, from his villa in Kavre District in April last year.

Dalglish is found guilty of sexually abusing children and charged with being a pedophile.

Officials concluded that Dalglish used to lure children from a weak economic background with promises of education, jobs and trips, and later sexually abusing them.
