Khartoum: At least 9 people were killed in a sit-in protest in Sudan when security forces raided them on Monday. The protests were against the military which is not relinquishing power and allowing Sudanese people to form a civilian government.
When Sudanese people got rid of long serving President Omar al-Bashir with the help of the military, they expected that the transition to civilian government would be natural and smooth. But the military that came to power shows no sign of handing the rein of Sudan to civilians.
A video posted online shows that the forces used original bullet to break the sit in protest. People were seen running away from the place with their heads down after the gunfire. The video also showed the brutality of Sudan forces as they torched the tents and beat the protesters.
Previously, the protesters and the Sudan military rulers held talks over who should govern in a transitional period following the overthrow of Bashir but it did not fetch any fruitful result.
About the raid on Monday, military council spokesman Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabbashi said that the main target of the raid was the criminals and not the protesters.
Kabbashi further said that they are ready to resume talks on a civilian transition soon.
