Vikram, Aishwarya Rai starrer Ponniyin Selvan 2 has shown a decline in the sale of tickets over the days, but that has not been able to hamper the aggregate total the film has amassed during the six day run at the box office. The movie is now inching closer to fetching Rs 250 crore at the box office with worldwide collections.

Hyderabad: The box office results for the highly anticipated Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 2 have been steadily declining since its release last week. The movie, which is a sequel to the highly successful first installment, Ponniyin Selvan, has not been able to replicate the same success as its predecessor. The first movie shattered numerous records at the box office and brought in a staggering Rs 500 crore globally. However, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has not been able to live up to the same expectations.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Ponniyin Selvan 2 made Rs 8 crore on Wednesday in India. This is the first time since its release that the movie has brought in a single-digit sum. However, the movie is expected to gain momentum throughout the course of its second weekend after posting strong double-digit numbers for five days in continuity. The movie has currently earned over Rs 122.25 crore in India and is very close to earning Rs 250 crore globally.

The highest occupancy for the movie was in Tamil with 26.67%, followed by 14.63% in Malayalam, 12.59% in Telugu, and 7.91% in Hindi. The movie has been doing well overseas, with a strong foreign weekend, bringing in over 3.5 million dollars, according to a tweet by Madras Talkies, Ratnam's production company. The tweet further stated that the movie had made its mark at number 8 at the US weekend box office.

Ramesh Bala, a tracker for the entertainment sector, had stated that weekdays were crucial for Ponniyin Selvan 2 following a strong weekend performance. The second weekend and weekdays are essential to the movie's success, he said. The movie had a successful 4-day opening weekend in Tennessee, with it being one of the top 3 Kollywood Grossers ever at the Tennessee Box Office.

The second installment of Mani Ratnam's two-part series, Ponniyin Selvan 2, is based on the same-titled epic novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. While the sequel is lagging behind at the box office, the focus lies on the overall numbers it achieves during its run at the theatres, both domestically and overseas. The movie's performance during its second weekend and weekdays will be crucial in determining its overall success.

While Ponniyin Selvan 2 has not been able to replicate the same success as its predecessor, it still has the potential to do well during its run at the theatres. The movie's overall performance during its run, both domestically and overseas, will be the determining factor in its success. The focus now lies on the movie's performance during its second weekend and weekdays, and whether it can pick up momentum and bring in the numbers that are expected of it.
