Hyderabad: Directed by Sudipto Sen, 'The Kerala Story' has been making headlines ever since its release was announced in November 2022 due to the sensitive subject it addresses. The movie allegedly revolves around a Hindu woman from Kerala, who has been brainwashed by her Islamic friends into conversion and later trafficked to join the terrorist organisation ISIS.

Apparently, the BJP State Minister, Rahul Kothari, had earlier written a letter to the Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to make 'The Kerala Story' tax-free in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several Hindu organisations had also demanded the MP CM make the film tax-free in the state. In a tweet on May 6, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan revealed that the film has indeed been made tax-free in the state.

"The film 'The Kerala Story' exposing the horrific truth of terrorism is being made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh (sic)," he wrote while sharing a video of himself talking about the film.

The film was released on May 5 amid multiple protests and heavy backlash. Post its release, the film has now been declared tax-free in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The movie has received mixed reviews where some people labelled it as a 'propaganda film', while another section termed it a 'fabulous' movie.

The Kerala Story revolves around an innocent Hindu woman from Kerala, brainwashed and converted by her friends, only to be trafficked into joining the terrorist organisation ISIS. The film, directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, claims to be based on real-life events where almost 32,000 women from the state of Kerala are supposedly trapped in this hazardous scheme.

There have been constant protests and resentment against the film, and the Kerala High Court rejected the plea to put a stay on the film's release. A few days ago, the makers altered the film's trailer description from the 'story of 32,000 women' to 'three women', which sparked another debate.
