Hyderabad: The Kerala Story has been creating a lot of buzz since its release for a variety of reasons. While many criticised the film for supposed factual mistakes, the box office figures reflect a different story. The Sudipto Sen directorial has received a thumbs-up from the audiences as it continues to perform well at the box office.
The Adah Sharma-starrer movie brought in about Rs 19.50 on Saturday after earning Rs 81.15 crore in its first week and Rs 12.23 crore on its second Friday, according to business tracker Sacnilk. The movie's overall ninth-day take now stands at Rs 112.87 crore. According to the website, the movie's second Saturday in the Hindi-speaking market saw a 45.60% occupancy rate.
After Pathaan and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, it has also become one of 2023's biggest blockbusters. The lifetime earnings of Salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which finished its theatrical run with just Rs 107.71 crore, have already been surpassed by The Kerala Story.
It has even outperformed other star-driven films like Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada (Rs 32.20 crore), Akshay Kumar's Selfiee (Rs 16.85 crore), and Bholaa (Rs 82.04 crore) starring Ajay Devgn. However, it hasn't been able to surpass the collections of The Kashmir Files by Vivek Agnihotri, which is regarded as being on the same lines as The Kerala Story.
This Friday saw the release of Bellamkonda Sreenivas' Chatrapathi, but it failed to draw crowds to the theatres. The Kerala Story has no immediate rivals, which gives it freedom to develop further and draw large audiences to theatres. Adipurush, the upcoming big release, doesn't come out until June 16, after the IPL fervour has subsided.
