Vizag (AP): The Indian Navy's oldest Hydrographic Survey Ship, 'INS Sandhayak' has been decommissioned, having completed 40 years of service at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

The ship was decommissioned in a low-key event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event happened in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, current Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, the Chief Guest for the ceremony.

During its four decades of service, 'INS Sandhayak' undertook over 200 major hydrographic surveys on the western and eastern coasts of the Indian peninsula, the Andaman Sea, and had even held surveys in neighbouring countries.
