Mumbai: One person died and two suffered injuries after an aluminium cladding panel fell at Mumbai's Churchgate railway station on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, preliminary reports say that the incident occurred due to strong wind and rains.
“One person died and two people were injured after aluminium cladding panel on the east side facade of Churchgate new station building fell today, due to strong winds and rains,” Western Railway said, adding the matter is under investigation.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital also an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh has been announced to the family of the deceased by the Western Railway.
A railway official quoted that the cladding was part of the 81 ft x 54 ft mural of Mahatma Gandhi, installed in 2017 at the station building.
However, six commuters were killed while 34 others sustained injuries after the nodal foot over-bridge at the northern end of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) came crashing down on On March 15.
