Meerut (Uttar Pradesh): Police personnel in Meerut's Nauchandi PS are solving cases by advising people to chant the Gayatri mantra, use gangajal and sandalwood. When a man who was facing harassment from his second wife and step-son pleaded for justice in the police station, the SHO advised the victim to go to Haridwar and chant the Gayatri Mantra daily during Brahma Muhurta. The helpless victim has now approached the IG office for justice.
Ganga water will give justice
Policing in Nauchandi Police Station these days is being done using gangajal, sandalwood and Gayatri mantra, instead of the IPC, CRPC and police manuals. Inspector Premchand Sharma is spraying complainants approaching the police station with sandalwood and Ganga water on them instead of registering cases and investigating them. The issue which has come into public focus has turned controversial.

The lawyer alleged that the Meerut police has taken the law for granted. If policing will be done in this way, then the IPC, CRPC and Police Manual have no meaning. If cases can be solved using only Ganga water, applying sandalwood and chanting the Gayatri mantra, then why are police needed. The aggrieved party has demanded action from the IG in the matter.
Law being taken for granted
Top officials are refusing to speak in front of the media regarding this strange and unique case of policing. However, following the complaint by the victim, the IG has directed to register a case and take departmental action against the inspector for dereliction of duty.
