UP Police head constable commits suicide

Mahesh Bhadauria, a head constable in Uttar Pradesh Police committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of the police barracks. The SSP said that this particular matter, prima facie, appeared to be accidental.

Lucknow: Even as the UP Police worry about the growing stress factor among its personnel, a head constable in Kanpur committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping off the fourth floor of the police barracks.

Mahesh Bhadauria apparently climbed to the fourth floor and leaped to his death, an official said, while adding that his switched-off mobile phone and shirt was found on the fourth floor.

SSP Anant Deo said that the deceased belonged to Auraiyya and lived in the police barracks. He said that the incident was being investigated. Sources said that the constable was a habitual drinker.

Asked to comment on the spate of suicides in the police, the SSP said this particular matter, prima facie, appeared to be accidental.

There have been many such cases of suicides by the UP police personnel in recent days, leading to worry in the top echelons of the force, which is the largest in the world.
