J'khand: Gang-rape accused awarded life imprisonment in Dumka

The court has sentenced 11 accused to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000, in a case of gangrape in Jharkhand's Dumka. During the judgement, the court has denied all the defence argument and said the rape is a heinous crime and no argument can defend them of having convicted.

Dumka (Jharkhand): The court has sentenced 11 accused to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000, in a case of gangrape in Jharkhand's Dumka on Monday.

The court has also directed that if the accused failed to pay the fine, they will have to bear an additional punishment of one year.

Although, the defence argued to grant some relief as the accused is in the age of building their career. But, the court has denied all the defence argument and said the crime is against humanity.

On 6th September 2017, a girl went on a date with her boyfriend. While returning home, some boys of the same locality gang-raped the girl.

However, the girl had lodged a complaint against 17 people in the Dighhi police station.

Meanwhile, after 15 days of the incident, the police had arrested 16 accused related to the case.

While talking to the media, Public Prosecutor Surendra Prasad Sinha said that the court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment considering the incident as heinous.

The court has released the names of the 11 convicts as; John Murmu, Alvinus Hembrum, Jayprakash Hembram, Subhash Hansada, Sourav Soren, Marshall Murmu, Danielle Kisku, Suman Soren, Shailendra Marandi, Anil Rana and Saddam Ansari.
