New Delhi: Kitty Kumaramangalam, the wife of late former Union Minister P Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, was found murdered at her residence in Vasant Vihar last night. One person has been detained and search is on for two other accused, said Pratap Singh the DCP South-West, Delhi. She was 67 years old, he added.
Police suspect an attempted robbery to be the motive behind the killing and have arrested a washerman, identified as Raju (24), in connection with the case. It is learnt that the washerman had come to the house around 9 pm on Tuesday night, and when the maid had opened the door, he overpowered her, dragged her to a room and restrained her, police added. Meanwhile, two others who had entered the house along with Raju, smothered the victim with a pillow, the police said.

The issue came to light after the maid who managed to untie herself, had escaped and raised an alarm. Police also said that there were opened briefcases at the scene of the crime which suggest that the motive was attempted robbery. Confirming the case, DCP South West said that the incident was reported late at 11:00 PM.
