Chennai: Students from Telangana, who were on their way back from Puducherry after participating in a kabaddi match, have been detained by Chennai police on Monday.

The group had boarded 29A bus to travel from Anna Salai to get down at Egmore. When the bus conductor Vincent had asked them to buy tickets, an argument broke out between the group's coach and the conductor.

Eyewitnesses also claim that when the group was getting down near Egmore, Lakshmanan, the coach kicked the conductor on his leg and attacked him.

Seeing this, people in the vicinity surrounded the group and a brawl broke out soon after.

Following the incident, police detained the coach and group of kabaddi players for further investigation.

Chennai: A Kabadi coach from Telangana state who was picked up for attacking an MTC bus conductor on Sunday, was later released in the day without any charges.

A group of students from a private college in Telanagana who participated in a Kabadi tournament in Puducherry decided to visit Marina on their way back. 

After visiting Marina, the group boarded MTC route 29-A bus plying between Anna Salai and Periyar Nagar, to reach Egmore Railway station. 

During the trip, an altercation broke out between the bus conductor and the team's coach Lakshmanan.

According to witnesses, coach Lakshmanan deliberately stamped on the conductor's legs while alighting at Egmore. 

This grew into a scuffle between the kabadi players and a few conductors who were present in the scene. 

It escalated into a fisticuff in full public display causing flutter in front of Egmore Railway station. 

Some onlookers joined the party and thrashed the Kabadi players and the coach. 

Police party from the vicinity intervened and moved Lakshman along with a couple of students to safety in their patrol vehicle. 

After parleys, both the parties agreed to drop the charges against each other, the police took undertaking from both the parties and closed the complaints as withdrawn.
