Bhubaneswar (Odisha): A flying snake was seized from the possession of a man in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
According to sources, the accused used to earn his livelihood by showcasing the snake to the public.
The reptile was reportedly being trafficked in a train from Asansol in West Bengal. Passengers spotted the snake and informed the Snake Helpline.
Later, the snake was released into Chandaka forest.
Notably, the species is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. Ornate flying snakes can glide in a very short range through a parachute-like effect by extending their ribs and pulling in the underside.
A forest department official said: "It's offence under Wildlife Protection Act. We're investigating the matter."
