Business Desk, ETV Bharat: India’s leading telecom services provider Vodafone Idea Ltd announced on Monday that it has rebranded itself as ‘Vi’ in order to complete the integration of the two brands after Vodafone India merged with Idea Cellular on 31 August 2018.
Along with a new name, Vodafone Idea has also launched a new logo that would help in creating a new brand identity for the telecom company in the country.
“Vodafone Idea came together as a merged entity two years ago. We have, since then focussed on integrating two large networks, our people and processes. And today I am delighted to present Vi, a brand that will bring important meaning to lives of our customers,” Ravinder Takkar, managing director and CEO of Vodafone Idea Ltd said during the launch.
The total wireless customer base of Vodafone Idea in India stood at 30.9 crore at the end of May 2020, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data. If you are one of these customers and confused on how the rebranding may affect your current mobile connection, read on to get some of your questions answered.
Will your mobile number change?
The company says customers can continue using their existing numbers. Also, the exiting tariff plans and services will also continue like before.
Do you need to get a new SIM?
Your existing SIM will continue to work. But in case you want to get it changed, which is optional, the new sim will carry an updated design and logo.
Will any of your existing services get impacted?
The company on its website said that the rebranding will have no impact on your current services and customers can continue to enjoy all the benefits like before.
Will the My Vodafone App stay operational?
The company is now telling its customers to switch to the Vi™ app and avail new offers. The older My Vodafone app has been replaced by the Vi™ app on both the Google Play Store and App Store in India.
What can customers do with new Vi™ App?
Customers can recharge, pay bills, check account details and payment history, view details on data/call/voice usage etc on the new Vi™ App.
Also, as part of a promotional offer called “Happy Surprises”, customers can win gifts like GoPro devices, Netflix subscription and more.
Has the telco’s official website changed?
Yes. The company has launched a new website for its customers -- www.myvi.in. The older website is still live but redirects customers to the new portal when placing service requests.
What about Vodafone stores?
Vodafone stores and Vodafone mini stores are also now rebranded as Vi™ stores. So don’t get confused if you see a new signboard along with a new logo. They will continue to serve all existing Vodafone Idea customers like before.
