Hyderabad: Country's stock markets suffered a historic loss on Monday. Trading was also halted for 45 minutes within an hour of market opening as the BSE Sensex sank nearly 3,000 points to hit its lower circuit limit.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex was down by 3,935 points to 25,981 while the Nifty 50 tumbled 1,135 points to close at 7,610. Both Nifty 50 and Nifty bank witnessed their biggest fall in absolute terms till date.

Key Points:

  • This was the second time when the trading got suspended in this month. Previously on 13 March 2020 the trade was halted for 45 minutes.
  • All sectoral indices at the NSE and BSE were in a sea of red. Among stocks, private sector lender Axis Bank lost by 27.6 per cent to Rs 310 per share while IndusInd Bank slipped by 23.9 per cent and ICICI Bank by 18.3 per cent.
  • Investors wealth to the tune of Rs 14 lakh crores evaporated from the market on Monday.
  • The BSE Sensex closed at 46 month low where as the NSE Nifty closed at 47 months low on Monday.
