Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the tension and strengthening of existing runways at Vijayawada and Rajahmundry airport and laid the foundation stone for linear expansion of terminal building at Visakhapatnam airport showed a video link today in New Delhi. While addressing the media he said, "these particular three projects will inner the capacity of passenger handling as well as cargo handling."
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, "The potential for cargo, tourism and passenger travel through these cities of Andhra Pradesh is very important for the economy of the state and our government is committed in supporting the further growth of this aviation ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh."

To meet the growing demands of the traffic at facility in operations of A-321 type of aircraft at Rajahmundry Airport, extension and strengthening of existing runway and associated works at an estimated cost of 15182 was taken up. Similarly, extension and strengthening of Vijayawada airport and associated works have been completed at the cost of rupees 145 crores. The airport will now be able to facilitate operations of wide body aircraft.
In view of the exponential growth of passenger and aircraft movement experience and sustained growth observed in the recent past, Airports Authority of India has decided to expand the existing terminal building at Visakhapatnam Airport. The existing terminal area of 19800 square metre will be expanded 29050 square metre at the cost of rupees 60 crore. After the expansion, terminal building will be able to handle 1050 passengers during peak hours.
