Kolkata: Suman Kumari, who created ripples in the international boxing arena by defeating her Taiwan opponent this month, was reportedly assaulted on Friday in Kolkata's Mominpur area. The 22-year-old, who was on her way to the office was stopped midway and attacked by a 25-year-old youth.
Kumari, who works at the State Agriculture Department, was abused by the man in the middle of the busy Mominpur bus stand road.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Kumari revealed that when she registered her protest, the accused attacked her.
While a policeman was present at the spot, she said that the cop allegedly turned a blind eye towards the tussle.
Reportedly, the Kolkata police have issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) that requires cops to act, even if the crime does not take place under their area of jurisdiction.
However, despite the cop's presence and his alleged inability to act, the incident has raised several eyebrows.
While Kumari claimed that she continues to trust the Kolkata police, sources in the police department revealed that a case is yet to be registered in this regard.
