Gariabandh: Women of Puranapani village of Gariabandh district in Chattisgarh, as a part of their daily routine, have to walk miles in the fierce heat to quench the thirst of their family.
In search of drinking water, these women walk four kilometres to a dried river bed and dig 'Ziria' (small crater). After so much of labour, they are able to collect only a pot filled water which is not enough for quenching the thirst of the village.
All eight handpumps at the village are useless. The villagers have complained about their struggle many-a-times, but all in vain. The officials only provided villagers with empty assurances.
