Panaji: Goa Congress seems to be in trouble as Goa BJP Chief Vinay Tendulkar claimed on Monday that 10 Congress legislators wanted to join the BJP after general election results on May 23.
In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat Goa, BJP Chief Vinay Tendulkar said that 0 miffed Congress MLAs wanted to join the BJP post-Lok Sabha election results.
He further added that "But as we had promised our allies that we will run the government with them for the remaining term, party high command decided not to induct those ten MLA in the BJP party."
When asked about the ongoing mining crisis in the state, the Goa BJP President said, 'tourism and mining were the two main source of income for the state. After the Supreme Court order, it has affected both the state exchequer and people who have lost their jobs. Our Chief Minister is continuously working to find a solution and we are confident that very soon legal mining will resume in the state it."
In the last assembly elections, the BJP had only 14 seats in Goa while Congress was the biggest party with 17 seats.
But after Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar ditched Congress to join, the grand old party's tally was reduced to 15.
In 2019, the BJP not only managed to get both Lok Sabha seats but won three out four assembly seats as well. This assembly by-poll took place simultaneously with Lok Sabha elections.
