New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress (IYC), on Saturday, launched a nationwide campaign "Ek Mutthi Mitti Shaheedon Ke Naam" to pay tribute to those farmers who died during their protests against the three controversial farm laws.
Under this campaign, Youth Congress members will collect a handful of soil from every district of the country, which will be brought to Delhi to make a map of India.
Later, it will be sent to Prime Minister of India as a symbol of protest against the three farm laws.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, IYC President Srinivas BV said, "Over 60 farmers have lost their lives in the ongoing agitation but not even once Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the protesting site. These farmers are protesting in a non-violent and democratic manner in such a scorching cold, seeking the repeal of these three farm laws."
He further added, "Prime Minister, who describes himself as a poor labourer, son of a farmer, worries about Washington's democracy but he doesn't have time to hear the voices of millions of farmers sitting on dharna at a place which is just 10 km away from his residence. This Government has become deaf and dumb now."
Srinivas informed that a map of India will be made from the soil collected from various parts of the country as a memorial of the contribution of farmers and their fight for their rights.
Krishna Allavaru, Congress National Joint Secretary, said during the press conference, "These people sitting in Government are not leaders as they have now become dealers. They are making decisions for the welfare of rich industrialists and not for the farmers."
He further said, "Our campaign is a message that the Constitution has empowered the farmers to protect their rights through non-violent means and no government can arbitrarily impose any law against their will."
